Canadian Arctic documentary ——
Before the Road Splits
During Spring Break 2025, five students and five professional mentors traveled to Tuktoyaktuk, a remote town at the edge of the Arctic Circle, to complete a once-in-a-lifetime documentary project.
The film, Before the Road Splits, explores how the newly built Inuvik–Tuktoyaktuk Highway has changed Indigenous communities—bringing both opportunities and challenges. Students conducted on-site filming, interviews, and cultural research, gaining hands-on experience in field production, storytelling, and teamwork under extreme conditions.
This rare project not only deepened students’ understanding of climate change and cultural heritage, but also became a powerful addition to their university applications, with professional-level credits and festival submissions.
The official trailer for Before the Road Splits is now live.
*Full documentary release pending film festival submissions.
We invite you to witness the beginning of the journey — along a road that changed everything.
