Canadian Arctic documentary ——
Before the Road Splits
Long before the land split, the road did.
Before pavement, there was permafrost — crossed by dog sleds, bush planes, and silence.
For generations, Tuktoyaktuk was a fly-in, fly-out community, shaped by distance as much as by tradition.
Then came the highway.
Before the Road Splits traces the quiet aftermath of connection. The newly constructed Inuvik–Tuktoyaktuk Highway brought access, goods, and opportunity — but also new questions.
What arrives when isolation ends? And what gets left behind?
Told through the voices of elders and youth, the film listens — without judgment — as a community speaks of change: some welcome it, others mourn it.
Roads link, but they also divide.
Here, where climate shifts and culture stretches, every choice is a turning.
And every fork in the road becomes a mirror of the one within.
The official trailer for Before the Road Splits is now live.
Full documentary release pending film festival submissions.
We invite you to witness the beginning of the journey — along a road that changed everything.
